Last night, as I sat at the Grand Hyatt Hotel bar waiting for my meal, I started to chat to the gentleman beside me.

He shared that he was retiring the next day and had been head of Sales for a financial services firm for the past 6 years. Immediately, I knew that it was the perfect time to ask him questions about how sales and marketing works together.

Coschedule shared an important statistic last year that you are 414% more likely to achieve your business goals with a documented marketing strategy in place. For marketing consultants like us, this was a godsent because so many businesses want to fast track their marketing and skip strategy - to their detriment. Their questions are always,  "Why do you need the right strategy in place?" Well, the answer is simple; would you go onto a football field without a plan in place, without the right game plan. To help grow your business, be more productive with resources and budget and ultimately to increase sales, your business needs a marketing strategy. Furthermore, it needs a data driven marketing strategy aligned to your small business goals.

My Experience as a Marketing Intern.

I started my internship at Marketing Eye when I had just finished my first semester at University. My aim was to find a part-time internship where I would be able to learn and enhance my skills in the professional world. I had applied to Marketing Eye without any expectation of getting accepted for the role. When I received the call of confirmation I was ecstatic, as this was my first achievement in a new country. Marketing has always been my field of interest and so a Marketing internship was extremely exciting.

Imagine that there is suddenly a digital black out in the whole world: you cannot access your mobiles, laptops or internet. There is no Instagram, Facebook or YouTube. What do you say, will you be able to survive in this world? Will businesses be able to survive since they have made themselves use to the fast-paced environment of this ever-changing world?

No, I don’t think that’s possible!

Technology has made us rely on it so much that one cannot even imagine a world without digital devices. It is the same case for the businesses across the world. Whether it is accounting, analytics or finance, every department is entirely dependent on technology.

Gone are the days when sidewalks and storefronts were the primary sources of market promotion. In today’s world, traditional marketing techniques are not enough to sustain a brand’s name in the market. Current trends show that most customers flock online for all research and buying.

Following this transition, marketing strategies must be tailored to seamlessly connect with an online audience. For the professional services industry, this transition remains challenging but paramount.

Recently, I came across a famous fast food chain billboard which was promoting its newly launched product. A thought came across my mind as to why these multinational brands are using such old traditional ways of advertising to promote their new product as these would be better advertised on social media than on billboards. That’s when I saw the small symbols of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube on the billboard, and it suddenly struck me the main focus of the billboard was to direct the customers toward their social media platforms. This made me realize how traditional and digital media can co-exist in the same environment.
