The entrepreneur in me is going crazy
As an entrepreneur it is so easy to get caught up in new bright shiny ideas, that you forget about the business that got you there in the first place.
My new shiny ideas, are one's that are well thought through and have been in the pipeline in one shape or form for many years. They will not only improve my business, but also take other businesses and Government enterprises to new heights in both marketing and human resources.
It's an exciting time, but as an entrepreneur you have to have your priorities in place and they need to be rock solid.
One of my oldest employees said to me last week that I live life like someone in a concentration camp. I wake up, have a routine, go to work, don't stop for lunch, finish work late and then drive home, shower, eat and go to bed. This routine has been going strong for a few months now and while it may be tired to some people, I am totally fine with it - even though I know that I shouldn't be.
You see, I have a dream, a big hairy audacious goal and I know that if I work really hard it will be finished by the time February comes around and my life will be very different. I will have accomplished everything I set out to achieve in my business life, and then I can go find another pasttime.
I can't describe what it is like to be me, but I am a female entrepreneur, who grew up with four brothers. I understand men, and often don't quite get women in the same way. I respect women and I believe that women are now safely seated "at the table" and as more women become better equipped, that table may tipple over with amazing women doing incredible things.
While we all have challenges and obstacles that come in our way, we should never fall to the "poor me" syndrome. Everyone has their "shit" and no matter where you have come from, you have the opportunity to build a life you dream of having. You just have to be prepared to work hard, and handle the knock backs that come your way.
You will never have a smooth road. That is a fantasy. Digging deep in tough times, shows resilience and an ability to get through anything that may be put in front of you.
I'm sitting at my desk in one of the most exciting weeks of my entire career, and while the buzz is there, I am working my butt off to make sure that everything is in place. I feel as though my brain is fried but that's ok, I will keep moving forward and at a later date my brain will be free for new and exciting things.
There is no secret that you cannot have everything all at the one time, but what I do have is the confidence that it is possible in my life time for all my dreams to come true - if only I could focus on them one by one.
My mentor also said to me the other day, after going to a conference, "know the one thing you are good at" and that is a very important thing to think about. If you are really good at something and you play to your strengths, anything is possible. Surround yourself with people that are good at the things that are not your strengths.
Building teams of people that are capable, self-starting and incredibly driven will help you no-end.
Today, I work on five different businesses, knowing that each of them are part of my bigger dream. Only one of them has a tight deadline and another will fail if it isn't finished to the timeline set in place, but all of that is perfectly ok. I've got this! Actually, my entire team has "got this" and we are all driven by the same incredible dream knowing that together anything and everything is very possible.
