My Experience Interning at Marketing Eye
After two months of interning at the Melbourne office of Marketing Eye I feel like time has gone too quickly.
Internships seem like this tiresome task that university students need to do to boost their CVs, but I can honestly say I’m going to miss everyone there and am sad to leave. I really didn’t know what to expect when I started. I didn’t know what work I would be assigned or what the people would be like, but I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.
The Work
My internship reinforced my passion for marketing. I initially picked marketing as a major in my Bachelor of Commerce degree mostly because the other majors were a bit too boring or mathematical for my liking. Two years down the line and I’m sure I’ve made the right choice. Similar to my marketing units at university, interning didn’t feel like a chore- it was actually fun.
I enjoyed being challenged and producing marketing content that would be published. It was such a great feeling to finish something and to find out it only needed a little bit of tweaking before being posted online.
The People
Like many people, I was quite nervous and wary on my first day. However, as the weeks went on I began to feel a little disappointed that my internship was almost over. I had grown accustomed to everyone’s little quirks. From Lewis’ funny stories, Maddy’s excitement over food, Amanda’s laughing while showing off the latest dance, to everyone teasing Ethan’s mumbling- I’m going to miss it all.
Mellissah, the founder of Marketing Eye, and Christina, the State Manager, have removed the awkward barrier between employee and employer. There’s no hesitation to ask questions or ask for clarification about something, and they’re always collaborating with staff. Few workplaces have this luxury so I’m envious of everyone that works here.
There is also one member of the team that gets a special mention- Pippa Smith, the office dog. Pippa never failed to make me smile whether she was rolling around on the carpet or having a little nap on the floor. I hope I’m lucky enough to have an office dog in my next workplace.
My Advice for Future Interns
Don’t be scared to get out of your shell and immerse yourself in Marketing Eye’s culture. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, so don’t be afraid to ask questions about work or to join in when everyone’s chatting.
Interning at Marketing Eye was such an invaluable experience and I couldn’t recommend it enough to any marketing or graphic design students about there. Everyone made me feel like I was part of their Marketing Eye family and I have learnt so much these past two months.
Good luck to everyone starting your internships!
